We’ve seen thousands of concept cars over the years, and they all seem to have one thing in common: they never actually get produced. It seems as though the car companies don’t have the guts to build anything that is actually awesome, but would rather keep producing incremental and insignificant changes to all the boring ugly cars they currently produce.

This might be something different. BMW has actually been promoting the heck out of this car, the i8. It’s been built, photographed, modeled, and videoed almost nonstop since its conception.

Check out this video of the BMW i-series concepts in action:

Perhaps the most telling thing, however, is the fact that BMW has actually been running double-wide ads in popular magazines featuring none other than the i8 in all its futuristic beauty. So, who knows? Maybe this one will actually make it into production! The Chevy Camaro concept did. So we’ll see.

And here’s another video they made to show off the i8:

The i3 is the more urban, economical contemporary of the i8. It’s an electric SUV concept from BMW designed to show off what they could come up with in the area of urban and suburban everyday-driver vehicles that you could actually envision owning and driving.

This would be a follow-up to their current X3 and X5 SUV models that would obviously offer dramatically superior fuel economy and a far more appealing design.

The i3 has been modeled, photographed and shown off in general quite a bit as well. It’s often pictured with the i8 in urban settings as BMW’s vision for the future of the automobile.

Prices have been quoted in the $35,000 range for the i3, and obviously more for the i8. I for one hope they actually bring these vehicles to market, and soon!
